Gum treatment, explained

Gum disease ranges from reversible gingivitis to periodontitis with bone loss. We diagnose with six-point pocket charting, bleeding scores and recession mapping, plus low-dose digital X-rays where needed. Common signs are bleeding on brushing, bad breath, tender gums and sensitivity along the gumline.

First-line care follows the Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) protocol. AIRFLOW uses a warm water and air stream with ultra-fine erythritol powder to lift biofilm and stain above and just below the gumline, while PERIOFLOW delivers a gentle subgingival spray for deeper pockets and around implants. Where needed, scaling and root planing under local anaesthetic debrides roots and reduces pocket depths.

The mouth-body connection

Healthy gums, healthier you

Treating gum disease isn't just about keeping your teeth, it's about lowering your whole-body inflammatory load. Inflamed, bleeding pockets let oral bacteria enter the bloodstream and challenge your immune system.

Gum health and conditions like diabetes influence each other, and calmer gums support cardiovascular and metabolic balance. Day to day, treatment restores confident chewing and fresher breath, making a heart-healthy diet easier to enjoy.

GBT is gentle. Deeper cleaning is done under local anaesthetic, so you can expect pressure or vibration rather than sharp pain.
